Marlene Gilfix-Raich, TEP

Partner, Tax Services

Biography

As leading tax practitioner in the Montreal area for over 25 years, Marlene Gilfix-Raich was brought into Fuller Landau to broaden our service offerings among local entrepreneurs, family-owned businesses and non-residents.

Her career in tax and accounting began in Manitoba when Marlene was hired as an IT Consultant for the firm Arthur Andersen and Company, who had the unique policy of requiring all employees to obtain their diploma in chartered accountancy, regardless of position.

This turn of events ultimately changed the direction and future of Marlene’s career. “As I was going through the diploma program I realized that I really enjoyed the work, my colleagues and the clients!”

Marlene’s aptitude in tax and problem solving is rooted in her lifelong puzzle hobby. “What keeps me going is the constant challenge of tax work, and solving each client’s individual tax puzzle – be it estate planning or creating a profitable business structure”.

Since graduating from the Manitoba chartered accountancy program in 1976, Marlene quickly moved up the ranks at MacGillivray & Co., where she became partner of the tax department in 1980. She continued to excel in her field, moving on to Lippman Leebosh April where she managed the tax department of the firm and their successor firms until arriving at Fuller Landau in January of 2013.

Marlene holds an Honours Degree in Mathematics and a Masters in Computer Science, both from the University of Manitoba. She is an active member of several professional groups, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba, Canadian Tax Foundation, Financial and Estate Planning Council of Montreal and the International Fiscal Association. Marlene also volunteers her time in the local community as a Board Trustee at the Congregation of Shaar Hashomayim and a Committee Member at Federation CJA.
