2013/12: Tax Information for 2014

Here are the deductions at source rates for 2014 and 2013 for Employment Insurance, Quebec Parental Insurance Plan, Quebec Pension Plan, Canada Pension Plan, Quebec Health Services Fund, Quebec Health Contribution, and Commission des normes du travail. These rates will help the user plan more efficiently for the current taxation year and help to prepare T4 and Relevé 1 slips for 2013.

2013/08: Form T1135: New Reporting Requirements

On June 25, 2013, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) announced a revision to form T1135 (Foreign Income Verification Statement) as part of its measures to crack down on international tax evasion and aggressive tax avoidance. The revised form is applicable to 2013 and subsequent taxation years and will include the disclosure of substantially more detailed information with respect to each specified foreign property held.

2012/11: Changes to the Quebec Sales Tax System

Changes were announced in September 2011 which would almost harmonize the Quebec Sales Tax (QST)
with the federal Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST) legislation.
These changes go into effect January 1, 2013.

2012/08: IRS Announces New Delinquent Filing Compliance Procedures

On June 26, 2012, the IRS announced new filing compliance procedures for those U.S. persons (U.S. citizens, Green Card holders and resident aliens) living in Canada who have been delinquent in filing their U.S. income tax returns or the Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (“FBAR”). These catch-up tax filing compliance procedures appear to be the IRS’s easy pass route to allow tax amnesty to innocent non-filers, who present a low compliance risk.
