For Immediate Release, September 12, 2018, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
The 13th edition of the FL Fuller Landau Dragon Boat Race & Festival, in support of the Cedars Cancer Foundation CanSupport program, took place Saturday at Parc Père-Marquette in Lachine and saw over 1,000 participants and spectators attend. Mother Nature was on the paddlers’ side this year and the sun was shining for the event that raised over $440,000 and counting… thanks to the support of thousands of individual donations.
The paddlers’ village was buzzing with enthusiasm as teams took part in two qualifying races before lunch and a final race in the afternoon. However, winning on the water wasn’t the only goal, as each boat strove to outdo each other’s fundraising totals, with top teams raising over $62,000 in support of the Cedars Cancer Foundation at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). The Camp Nominingue Alumni Dragons reclaimed the winning title from the Dusty Paddles in an exciting final race by 8/100th of a second.
Alexia Calvillo, wife of legendary Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo, and Lizanne Murphy, Cedar’s spokesperson and 2-time Olympian, were on site for the festivities.
Funds raised will be donated to the Cedars CanSupport program, which provides psychological, practical, and humanitarian assistance, as well as support services for cancer patients at the McGill University Health Centre.
Founded in 2006, the Dragon Boat Race & Festival began with six boats and $12,000 raised, and has grown to an event of more than 25 boats, with over $5.9 million raised to date. Accounting firm FL Fuller Landau celebrated their 11th anniversary this year, as the presenting sponsor of the festival, and they also take pride in being active participants.
