Montréal, September 23, 2013 – The eighth edition of the Fuller Landau Dragon Boat Race & Festival, in support of the Cedars Cancer Institute’s CanSupport program, took place Saturday at Parc Père-Marquette in Lachine and saw over 600 participants and spectators attend. The weather cooperated for the event that raised more than $500,000, thanks to the support of hundreds of individual donations.
Enthusiasm and optimism reigned supreme as cancer survivors, healthcare professionals, students, managers, colleagues, families and friends all came together to proclaim victory and support the Cedars Cancer Institute at McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).
The participants and general public also had the opportunity to meet event spokespersons, Roseline Filion, Canadian Olympic Diving medalist and Alexia Calvillo, wife of Montréal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo.
Funds raised will be donated to the Cedars Cancer Institute’s CanSupport program, which provides psychological, practical, and humanitarian assistance, as well as support services for cancer patients at the McGill University Health Centre.
Founded in 2006, the Dragon Boat Race & Festival began with six boats and $12,000 raised, and has grown to an event of over 25 boats with close to $3-million raised to date. Accounting firm Fuller Landau has been a major sponsor of the festival since 2008, and recently announced a five year renewal of their partnership.
