Celebrating a decade of success
MONTREAL, May 7, 2015 – The countdown for the 10th Annual Cedars CanSupport ‘Rain or Shine’ Dragon Boat Race and Festival, presented by FL Fuller Landau, is officially on. Event organizers held a launch party for the festival on Wednesday, May 7 to welcome paddlers both old and new. Event spokespersons, former Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo and his wife Alexia Calvillo, were on hand to officially launch the 10th edition of the event.
“This is the 10th anniversary of the event and we are looking forward to marking this important milestone,” said Michael Newton, managing partner of FL Fuller Landau. “We want this year to be bigger than ever! September is fast approaching and this launch party was a great way to kick things off and get paddlers, organizers, sponsors and spokespeople together under one roof.”
This 10th year anniversary event goal is to surpass previous year’s numbers in terms of participants and dollars raised for in support of the CanSupport program at the Cedars Cancer Institute. CanSupport provides free psychosocial, practical and humanitarian assistance for cancer patients and their families. To date, the event has raised more than $3-million.
The festival will be held on Saturday, September 19 and at least 40 colourful dragon boats will take to the Lachine Canal, propelled by more than 800 participants, some coming from as far away as Ottawa, Ontario and Harrington, Quebec.
“Participants have the option to register a full team or can ask to be placed on an existing team,” said Cristina Darwish, co-chair of the event. “It’s a day of fun, but our purpose is to make a difference in the lives of Canadians facing a personal trial related to cancer. Saying yes to a day of fun, camaraderie and healthy competition is an easy and rewarding choice for participants, myself included.”
FL Fuller Landau has been the presenting sponsor of the CanSupport Dragon Boat Race & Festival since 2008 and had some 40 employees participating in the 2014 event. This year, the firm has pledged to fielding three boats in the 2015 race.
Entering a dragon boat in the fun-filled fundraiser requires a minimum donation of $12,500. Spaces are still available to those interested in participating. To learn more about the event or to register a boat, visit www.cedarsdragons.ca.
