2012/11: Changes to the Quebec Sales Tax System

Changes were announced in September 2011 which would almost harmonize the Quebec Sales Tax (QST)
with the federal Goods and Services Tax/Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST) legislation.
These changes go into effect January 1, 2013.

2012/08: IRS Announces New Delinquent Filing Compliance Procedures

On June 26, 2012, the IRS announced new filing compliance procedures for those U.S. persons (U.S. citizens, Green Card holders and resident aliens) living in Canada who have been delinquent in filing their U.S. income tax returns or the Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (“FBAR”). These catch-up tax filing compliance procedures appear to be the IRS’s easy pass route to allow tax amnesty to innocent non-filers, who present a low compliance risk.

These rates will help the user plan more efficiently for the current taxation year and help to prepare T4 and Relevé 1 slips for 2011.
